Wireframing – API Driven Application
Goal: Leverage user generated content in a separate location to serve actionable information to enterprise users.
Working with multiple, large enterprise organizations (internationally) we were tasked with designing and developing an API driven application that felt simple and intuitive when connecting with large information databases. The API dashboard would provide a summary of key information and metrics that are relevant to the user. The user could drill down through the navigation as needed. Designed for users using a tablet the size of an iPad.
These were some of the ideas we ideated through with our enterprise users.
At a glance – Top level
Before working on the wireframes, we validated the levels of granularity that were needed and important to our enterprise users. This helped us know what information to parse first and understand the information architecture strategy we wanted to implement.
Top level was defined as the entry point for every employee for the MVP. Future work would include user defined customizations.
At a glance – Job/Role
Next, we started looking at how users navigated through the current platform to better understand what information was being used most often.
During user testing, this was identified as the most likely start point for 80% of users. However, the technology stack at the time did not allow for us to move forward with this option for the MVP.
At a glance – Fullscreen
We new very early on that fullscreen was a mandatory requirement as the current state of the platform did not allow for a truly fullscreen experience. We wanted to create an experience that surfaced the right information at the right time for the users. User testing validated this approach.
Iterations
Working with our customer advisory group we worked on several different styles of information handling trying to find the right balance between enough information and the ability to direct the user to what they needed to view. We also had a breadth of industries and nationalities within our customer advisory group which made us confident in our work as we moved forward.
